This picture was taken by Dorothea Lange. This is a picture of a fish resturant
for the blacked or coloreds in teh section of the city where cotton hoers are recruited.
The sign reads... "Bryant's Place Hot Fish for Colored." Right there it seperates the whites supposably
better than the black, from the blacks in the city. It looks light it is taking place in the day time, because of the light on the building.
This resturant is in a brick building and it looks like there might be other stores on the sides of it and on top of it as well the tone of the picture i think is
a negative tone since it seperates blacks an white. To me why would that be positive. when we know that people
are created equal no matter what the color of our skin. The thing that most caught my eye was the sign.
Two questions i would ask are...
1. who owns this resturant?
2. What caught your eye?
This picture was taken by Marion Post Wolcott. It was taken in the year of 1941.
The people standing in the picture are peopel who came to saturday night dance
around the bar. The sign reads "Positivly no beer sold to Indians" It look slike it was
taken in a bar of some sort. People are gathered to haev a drink or two. I see bottles in the
back on soe shelves, i also see other peple talking and having fun together. I see a plate set
on the wall in the back too. It looks like it might take place at night since it is a t a bar area.
The tone to this picture i think is a positive tone. People are having fun and relaxing
it shows many people all together. The only thing that might not be positive is the sign. it serves beer to everyone else but not
indians. That is not fair to them. Two questions i would ask are...
1. What were you trying to prove when taking this picture?
2. Where you shocked when you read the sigh?
This photo was taken by Esther Bubley. It is a sign at the Greyhound bus staion.
It says "Colored Waiting Room." It was taken in the year of 1943. This looks like it was taken in the day time because i can see the clouds in the sky. This sign has an arrow pointing in the direction of the waiting room. it look slike it is attached to a building.
The tone of the photo i think is negative and dark tone, because it saying that colored people
have to sit where the sigh points white people and blacks where seperated, because of racial thoughts.
The thing that attracted me the most was the bug print that reads COLORED. this is funny because when i think of
colored i think of the rainbow and of colors. And to actually have this mean the color of the skin is not very
nice. Two questions i wouls ask are...
1. What made you want to take a picture of this sign?
2. What did the bus stop look like?
